Aussie Aussie Aussie!!

Tiny Tim.

Destroyer of Japan.

I think the Aussies were lucky to get the win, but a win is a win. (To quote Messers Eriksson). Take nothing away from the Socceroos, this is a historic win for them. Their first ever World Cup win.

I only managed to catch the second half of the game, and I almost fell asleep. Unlike the other 3-1 encounter I watched, Mexico v Iran, was by far more entertaining than the Australia v Japan game. Scrappy through most parts of the second half, the Aussies seemed to be unable to do anything in the business third of the pitch. It didn't help that Zico seemed to get his charges to pack the penalty area and try to hit Australia on the break. Sound tactics for a coach, but this fella is Brazillian for crying out loud.

I had almost given up when Tiny Tim bundled in the equalizer. "Saints be praised!" I yelled, as it meant that I would have gotten a point for Kheva's Predictor game. (I had gone for a 2-2 draw).
2 minutes later, my dreams, along with the dream of millions of crazed J League fans, were dashed when Cahill curled in a peach of a shot. Aloisi finished off the shell-shocked Japanese with a third goal a minute from time.

I'd like to take this chance to welcome Dennis and Ben (ex Reuters alum) to the show. No doubt you guys have already introduced yourselves in the posts below. :)

Women's intuition maybe...that Australia would win...and it was a replay of Liverpool's Champions League 2005 Finals!! I love to watch turn-arounds! Down by one goal and 3 in 7mins!! Ok, I suppose there are more J-league fans here, i shaldn't say more. =pp

Yes Kenneth, a win is a win...quoted from Portugal team too..=p it doesnt matter if it is a borderline win or a glorious win...=pp

It's a pity I was too tired to even watch any part of the other 2 games.

I would have loved to watch the Italy game. I've always been an Azzuri fan, since the days of the Devine Ponytail Baggio. :)

From what Kheva said, they attacked supremely well. :D Forza Azzuri!!

Liverpool? The guy who scored and became a national hero is always trying to chop Gerrard's leg at every merseyside derby...Wierd symmetry...Zam!

Anyway, Timmy for Golden Boot! Ronaldo will score one goal and get injured while causing a Richter 10 earthquake in Germany and wait for next world cup

For the Italy match, it was rather the contrary. Ghana played well but got hit by the bus and never stood up again

I just realised that Dick Advocaat is SK coach! NNNNNNNOOOOOOOO! NO NO NO! I should have predicted a Togo win!

Didn't Advocaat preside over those diasatrous Dutch campaigns, including the one last World Cup where they didn't even QUALIFY for the finals in Korea/Japan?

That's the point...Anyway, maybe he suits SK, but I doubt he can do even a third of what Hiddink did

Another typical SK victory, a red card to get them going. The only thing today is that the red is a worthy red
